Angelica Rodriuguez

Born in Encarnación on May 5, 1994, Angélica Rodríguez is a Paraguayan guitarist and opera singer.

From an early age, she showed remarkable musical talent, thanks to which – together with her fervent passion and perseverance – she quickly achieved considerable results, gaining recognition in various parts of the world, particularly in South America and Europe, where she has performed frequently, receiving widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike, while also completing her academic studies.

In 2015, she moved to Italy where she perfected her guitar and singing studies, obtaining two master’s degrees: one in Classical Guitar in 2017 at the “Guido Cantelli Conservatory” in Novara (Italy), graduating with full marks (110/110 cum laude and honorable mention) under the guidance of Maestro Bruno Giuffredi; and another in Opera Singing at the same institution under the guidance of Maestro Berardino Di Domenico.

She trained with internationally renowned maestros such as Berta Rojas, Aniello Desiderio, Eduardo Fernández, Víctor Villadangos, Carlos Barbosa Lima, Javier Bravo, Walter Ujaldón, Carlos Groisman, Hugo Geller, and Richard Stover.

In 2021, she won the eighth edition of the “Ángel G. Piñero” International Classical Guitar Competition, marking the beginning of an ongoing artistic collaboration, actively contributing to the dissemination of the Spanish maestro’s works by participating in important festivals and performing in prestigious concert halls, including the Sala del Club Monteverdi, the Fundación Carlos de Amberes in Madrid, the Théâtre Athénée Louis-Jouvet in Paris, and the “Chapiteau Harrier Baita” in Saint-Jean-de-Luz during the Festival Andaluz (France).

In June 2024, she made her debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra (Fundación Excelentia), performing a concert entitled “Brisas de Cádiz – De Falla y Piñero en la Bahía”, conducted by Maestro José Antonio Montaño.

She has participated in numerous festivals, such as the ninth edition of the “Antonio Marín Montero” International Guitar Festival in Granada (Spain), where she distinguished herself both as a soloist and as a member of the “HANA Quartett”, and the eleventh edition of the International Classical Guitar Season in Lodi in 2016. She has also performed in several renowned concert halls and culturally significant venues, such as the Botín Center in Santander (Spain), during the event “Gran Concierto de Música Clásica. España y Chile: una vida en común”, and at the National Library of Catalonia in Barcelona, where she appeared as a soloist in 2018. Between 2018 and 2019, she also performed at the Cervantes Institute in Paris, at the Ducal Palace in Mantua during the Trame Sonore Mantova Chamber Music Festival “Focus 6 corde” and at the Fanfani Hall of the Italian-Latin American Institute in Rome.

Since childhood, in addition to the classical guitar repertoire, Angélica has broadened her musical horizons by performing her own arrangements for guitar and voice, exploring pieces from the world of tango, bossa nova, jazz, and pop.

She has always made the most of her outstanding vocal qualities, performing pieces from the opera repertoire as well as traditional folk songs from her native country, proving to be an extraordinary interpreter of ‘Guarania’, a typical Paraguayan musical genre that symbolizes the cultural identity of the Paraguayan people.

In 2014, during the Youth Month celebrations, the President of the Republic of Paraguay recognized her as an “Outstanding Young Person” in the cultural field. Later that same year, the Junior Chamber of Asunción (Paraguay), together with the National Youth Secretariat, awarded her the “Outstanding Young Person of Paraguay” prize in cultural category.

In 2015, she released her first audiovisual project (DVD) “Homage to my city, Encarnación 400 years”, in which she pays tribute to her town by including works for classical guitar by Paraguayan composers, as well as pieces from the Paraguayan folk repertoire for voice and orchestra, accompanied by the Encarnación Youth Orchestra.

She is currently attending a two-year post-graduate course in Chamber Music at the “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory in Palermo and, after passing a competitive examination for teaching positions based on qualifications and exams, teaches as a tenured professor of Classical Guitar at the Istituto Comprensivo “Sferracavallo-Onorato” in Palermo. Her skilled hands make the strings of a guitar crafted by luthier José González López vibrate.
